Governing Board
Our Governing Board
Mrs Crawford
I am delighted to introduce myself as Head of School at Darrick Wood Infant and Nursery school, beginning the 1st of September 2024. With over 15 years of experience working in primary schools and school leadership I am very much looking forward to working withal stake holders within the school to continue to exceptional leadership of the school thus far. I have worked in school leadership for over12 years which has included Senior leadership roles, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and working across educational trusts improving behaviour, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Safeguarding as well as leading the Early Years Strategic plan for Nursery and Reception. I recognise that a leading school relies heavily on the way in which the whole community works together. Therefore, I am looking forward to collaborating with the entire school to ensure that we not only maintain the exceptional standards already achieved but we continue to strive for excellence in all that we do for our children and the school community.

Hello, everyone I’m Selina! I’m thrilled to introduce myself as...
Rosalyn Vaughan
I moved to Orpington 10 years ago but it’s only since my commuting to London changed during the pandemic that I really started to explore the local community and areas. In my professional life I support organisations with digital transformation and delivery, which ranges from leadership coaching on vision and strategy, through to project managing work within teams. Through the work that my parents have done in foster caring I have an appreciation for the importance of formative care, early education and safeguarding, and the important role that infant schools play in children’s lives. I’m hoping that my skill set of bringing strategic clarity and alignment will help Darrick Wood Infant & Nursery School continue to give the best start to its pupils.

What does the Local Governing Board do?
Outstanding local governance is vital to the continued success of our school. Our Local Governing Board (LGB) carries much of the responsibility for setting the strategic direction of our school and for monitoring all aspects of performance.
Governors are committed individuals from the local community, who share their knowledge, experience, expertise and skills to support and challenge the Headteacher/Principal and Senior Leaders; playing a part in improving pupil outcomes and to enhance the opportunities for our young people and families within the community.
Our governors come from all walks of life and backgrounds. This diversity is a crucial component of the success of the school as our governors bring a wide range of different perspectives.
The role of the LGB is a strategic one, the three core functions of the LGB are to:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Hold the Headteacher/Principal to account for the educational performance of the Academy School and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Oversee the financial performance of specified grants and revenue streams of the Academy School and making sure its money is well spent.
Linked Governor Roles
Each governor is assigned a linked role to understand, oversee, monitor and report on specific aspects of the School Development Plan (SDP). Link governors enrich the whole LGB’s understanding of their particular area and contribute to informed decision making.
We also consider that link governors help the LGB develop positive links with staff and create a visible and professional profile within the school.
There are additional link governors who have specific roles in supporting the governing body to fulfil its statutory responsibilities in areas such as Child Protection, Safeguarding, and Special Educational Needs.
