Mental Health and Wellbeing

Emotional Health and Wellbeing at Darrick Wood Infant & Nursery School

At Darrick Wood Infant & Nursery School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of all our pupils. Promoting wellbeing, building resilience, and developing good mental health are central to improving outcomes for our children. With such a large part of their day spent in school, we recognise that our classrooms provide an ideal environment for fostering emotional wellbeing and identifying early signs of anxiety, stress, or emotional distress.

We understand that everyone experiences challenges at times, and some children may need additional support. For our Key Stage 1 pupils, we provide age-appropriate strategies and interventions to help them recognise and manage their feelings. These include emotional check-ins, wellbeing stories, circle time discussions, mindfulness activities, and the use of emotional literacy resources to help children communicate how they feel.

Through nurturing relationships, inclusive teaching, and strong pastoral care, we aim to give every child the social and emotional skills they need to thrive. The knowledge and habits they develop now will help build resilience and set the foundations for lifelong mental wellbeing.
