Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

At Darrick Wood Infant & Nursery School, we are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing, and supportive environment where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential. We recognise that all children are unique and may require different levels of support to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) ensures that pupils with additional needs are identified early and receive tailored support through high-quality teaching, targeted interventions, and collaborative working with parents and external professionals.

We aim to:

  • Provide a broad and balanced curriculum accessible to all learners.
  • Identify and assess pupils’ individual needs as early as possible.
  • Work in close partnership with parents and carers to support each child’s learning journey.
  • Collaborate with specialist services and agencies where appropriate.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and wellbeing for all children.

Our SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) oversees the provision for children with additional needs, ensuring that appropriate strategies and resources are in place and regularly reviewed.

For further details about our provision, identification process, and how we support children with additional needs, please refer to our full policy below.
